Local knowledge
« on: January 30, 2007, 01:30:03 PM »

My boyfriend and I are moving to Brill soon.  We fell in love with the village on our first visit and are delighted to have found a house.

We've been back to Brill on several occasions since and found everyone so welcoming (especially in your two fantastic pubs, which we're sure we will frequent!). We can't wait to move in!

I've found your website very useful and informative, but here I'm asking for more specialised local info on a few topics

i) What are the numbers of the bus routes from/to the village.  I've been searding AVDC website and managed to get as far as timetables for routes but haven't got the route numbers!

ii) We will need a few minor repairs made to the house and was wondering if anyone could recommend  (or are!) local builders?

iii) The windows on the house will also need replacing, which we want to do sympathetically to match the existing windows in the remainder of the street/ conservation area.  Has anyone had wood windows made, or can they recommend a company/ local joiner for the work?

and finally - can anyone recommend a good chimney sweep?!

Many thanks in anticipation of help

The bus timetables and number can be found at

I would thoroughly recommend our local Bernwode News parish magazine. It lists all of the local tradesmen (and women).

If you'd like some detailed information on the bus route numbers and some inside information from someone who uses buses from Brill daily for commuting, we'd be happy to talk to you.  (Be warned there are few!)
There are many idiosincracies to the 11 bus route (Brill to Aylesbury/Thame via Haddenham Station) which you wouldn't find on the timetable!!

Hope you have a smooth move - our tel no is 01844 238639
