Well Tim, when you consider their age and also the past exposure they have had to the elements up on Brill Common they are a lot stronger than you might think! However, it's been a long time since they have been required to support a roof or any weight as past repair has opted to put in a new roof support structure that sits above the original roof frame.

Description: photo 2009 Mark Bailey
Following their repair and restoration, the mill's historic roof timbers have now returned to the mill for re-instatement. Here, the very first of the original roof 'ribs' (rafters) are positioned at the front of the mill.   For a detailed story on the restoration of Brill Windmill visit: http://www.buckscc.gov.uk/bcc/brill_windmill/brill_windmill.page
