WINDMILL NEWS

Observant villagers will have noticed the scaffolding and fencing round the Windmill a sign of works which will allow the Windmill to open again at Easter. This involves some replacement boards and shingles to keep the Windmill watertight and rails around the stairs to make sure visitors don't fall down them.. I know it’s a Windmill and Windmills are inherently dangerous but Health and Safety prevails.
This won't address the real problems of the serious timber decay of the main timbers and long term maintenance which has been neglected for many years. The Brill Society was asked by the County Council to make an application to WREN to fund this, and with only a week's notice managed to meet their deadline! Unfortunately if we are successful it would mean the Windmill would have to shut again to allow the repairs to be carried out – although not until mid-summer.
One good piece of news is that the County Council have accepted their responsibility and identified money for a ten year maintenance plan for the Windmill – something we have never had before.
